Our guest speaker will be Vetri Nathan, lecturer at the University of Denver, who will share with us the cultural situation caused by immigration in Italy. The presentation, which deals with current developments in Italy as well as in the United States, promises to be very interesting and will show a side of Italy with which most of us are not familiar. The Dante Alighieri Society, Denver, will host a special cultural meeting on Sunday, April 11, 2010 dedicated to "Scopa and Tombola". The first is an Italian card game and the other is similar to American bingo. We have had requests in the past for "Scopa" and now we are ready to oblige. The Society will supply Italian cards (very unusual and interesting) and rules for the games that are easy to learn. Anyone can play.

It is a great opportunity to practice the Italian language and a challenge to keep up with Fr. Tim's Italian. Handouts include both Italian and English prayers, so it's easy to follow. The film to be shown on May 16th is Bicycle Thieves (Ladri di biciclette) [1948; Directed by Vittorio de Sica]. Dr. Vince Piturro, UCD English Dept, will critique the film that will be shown at the Church Hall, 3541 Navajo Street , Denver starting at 3:00 PM. There will also be a snack of Bastone al Pasquini ed Ragu al Gaetano, soft bread sticks made by Pasquini Highlands Ranch...coated with butter and Parmesan cheese...our Italian substitute for popcorn! The scholarships are for college students going to Italy to further their studies in things Italian. The critically and publicly acclaimed Italian film Many kisses later (EX) is being premiered in Denver by the Italian Program at the University of Denver as part of the 1st annual Italian Film Festival USA. The Automezzi is celebrating itšs 20th year of exhibiting exceptional Italian cars, motorcycles and scooters to benefit local charities. Our marques include Ferrari, Lamborghini, Ducati, Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Pantera, Lancia, and Vespa, just to name a few! We are completely non-profit, and the show is organized by members of different Italian car clubs from around Colorado.

Our beneficiary for this year is the Cat Care Society, a local no-kill shelter, and Club Auto Colorado's Youth Restoration program, where challenged kids learn to restore classic cars. In previous years, we have been able to donate as much as $7,000 from the proceeds of the Automezzi, and we are looking to give even more this year, with the help of sponsors from around the Denver area! Download vendor information. The location is 1600 Pierce Street, behind Casa Bonita on Colfax. Time is from 10 AM to 3 PM. Admission is $5 for adults, and kids under 12 are FREE! An Invitational Bocce Ball Tournament will be held at Heritage Eagle Bend on June 26, 2010. Fun----Food----Prizes. 1st, 2nd and 3rd place cash prizes starting at $500 (based on number of players).

Event will be a single day tournament with 32 4-person teams, men, women, mixed-double elimination with 11 points or 1/2 hour play per game. Starting times by lottery beginning at 8:00 AM. Your team will be advised of start time and tournament rules by e-mail. We have four outdoor crushed granite surface courts. Feel free to bring your own bocce balls. Cost is $30 entry per player and includes hot breakfast and hot lunch.
