May 16, 2009 from 6:00-9:30 PM –  A Taste of Italy
This 4th Annual "A Taste of Italy" celebration will featue a silent auction, dinner with Italian cuisine at 6:00 PM, and live entertainment and dancing to "Swing Shift" from 6:30-9:30 PM. The event will be held at 7777 E. Hampden at Tamarac St. #233 (upper level) in Denver, CO. Seating is limited. May 16, 2009 from 5:00 - 11:00 PM –  Rodders Ball
There will be a car show from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm in the parking lot, with trophies for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. Dinner will be from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm (no food served after 7), and music will be playing from 5:00 pm to 11:00 pm by legendary radio DJ "The BoggieMan." There will be Dance Contests as well. Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church is continuing to have an Italian Mass on the first Sunday of each month at 9:00 AM. It is a great opportunity to practice the Italian language and a challenge to keep up with Fr. Tim's Italian. Handouts include both Italian and English prayers, so it's easy to follow. There will be a reception in the Parish Hall immediately following the Mass.

June 10, 2009 –  Seniors Bocce Tournament
This is the first year for Bocce at the Rocky Mountain Senior Games. You need to be 50 or older. The Bocce Tournament will be held at Anthem Ranch Community on June 10th. June 12, 2009 at 7:30 PM –  June Culture Meeting
The Dante Alighieri Society, Denver, will hold its June Cultural Meeting on Friday, June 12, at 7:30 PM. Maris Gaudiano will be the presenter for this special cultural meeting. Maris and her husband Giorgio, ex-members of the Dante and currently living in Rome, will present a tribute to the little known but very beautiful city of L'Aquila (Eagle), capital of the Abruzzo region. They have recently returned from the site of the April earthquake and will talk about the history of the city and the current situation. For more information see the attached flyer. June 27, 2009 –  Bocce Tournament
The Italians of America are having their annual one-day 32-team double elimination bocce tournament on June 27th.  The entry fee is $20, and the location is at Softball Country, 2101 W. 64th Ave., Denver.  It is an indoor facility with great accommodations, and you don't have to worry about the weather!!!  They will have prizes, food, and lots of fun. Dante Alighieri Society, Denver, will be holding its Dante Picnic on Sunday, July 19th, from 4 to 8 PM at Nottingham Park just west of Wadsworth Blvd. on 87th Ave (west at the light next to Old Chicago). The Dante will provide drinks and main course. Members are asked to bring either salads or desserts. Mike and Gay DiGiovanni have very graciously offered to chair the event for the third year. Aug. 9, 2009 –  Messa in Italiano la Seconda Domenica di Ogni Mese
Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church is now having an Italian Mass on the second Sunday (la Seconda Domenica) of each month at 9:00 AM. An Italian film with English sub-titles will follow the "Italian fondue" ~ "Bagna Calda".

Admission to the film is $10.00 for adults, $5.00 for students, and free to anyone currently studying Italian (their name on the current teachers' business card will suffice as identification). Dr. Vincent Piturro will do a critque of each film. He's in the English department at Metro . Funds generated will benefit the church, which was built by the Italian community in the late 19th century.

Maria Scordo Allen, the Honorary Vice Consul for Italy for Colorado, invites the Italian American community in Colorado to the second Italian American Forum scheduled for Saturday, September 12, 2009 at Mickey's Top Sirloin Steakhouse. Mickey's is located on 70th and Broadway in Westminster, CO. The Forum will start at 11:00 AM and end at approximately 3:00. The Dante Alighieri Society has set up a series of classes on Conversational/Cultural Italian to be held at Mount Carmel Parish Hall from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM, starting on Sept. 12th. This class will be taught by Jessica Deal Campagna. It will run for 10 weeks, and the cost is $65 for Dante members and $90 for non members. Sept. 13, 2009 at 3:30 PM –  Seconda Domenica
The Italian community and italophiles are invited to to share in another chapter of Our Lady of Mount Carmel's church history with its Seconda Domenica cultural, fellowship, and fundraiser events for the church. Each Seconda Domenica event will include a distinct area of Italian culture, the showing of an Italian film with English subtitles. Dr. Vincent Piturro from CU Denver has graciously donated his time and expertise to critique the award winning Italian films from various periods that will be shown.

Columbus Day Parade, Denver Oct. 10, 2009 at 10:00 AM –  Columbus Day Parade, Denver The theme this year's Columbus Day Parade that starts at 10:00 AM in downtown Denver is "Sail On!" Columbus Day is a national American holiday that honors not only the Italian American community, but also the origins of the United States itself. We would like to make this parade beautiful like the parades of old. If you, your organization, lodge, or club would like to participate in the parade, download the Parade Entry Form to get the process started. Staging will be along 14th Avenue west of Bannock Street. The Parade Committee's newsletter is available by mail or email. Monthly parade committee meetings that are open to everyone are held at Vincenza's (8000 W. 44th Ave. Wheat Ridge, CO 80033) the first Wednesday of every month at 7pm. Post Parade Party: This year there will be a float contest with prizes to be given at the Post Parade Party. No contest application is required; all parade entries will automatically be entered. The Committee is asking for two or more volunteers from every Italian American organization to help in various ways from collecting food tickets to baking cookies. Oct. 11, 2009 at 4:00 PM –  Seconda Domenica
The third Seconda Domenica Bagna Calda Benefit is Sunday afternoon at 4 PM on October 11th. Doors will open at 3:30. This event includes Italian finger food, an Italian film with English sub-titles critiqued by Dr. Vincent Piturro. "The Leopard" is the favorite film of the director Martin Scorsese. Admission is $10.00  for adults and $5.00 for children. It is being held at Our Lady of Mount Carmel church hall, 3549 Navajo Street, Denver. Oct. 21, 2009 from 5:30 to 10:00 PM –  Festa Italiana The Italian American Business Association (IABA) and the Honorary Vice Consul of Italy for Colorado invites you to celebrate Colorado's second annual Italian American Heritage Month at Festa Italiana on Wednesday, October 21, at the Creative Expressions Center at Tamarac Square in Denver. The Emcee of the event will be Tom Martino, TV and radio personality. The Festa will begin with cocktails at 5:30 PM, followed by dinner with traditional Italian cuisine at 6:00. At 7:00, the entertainment segments begin with "A Romantic Journey" by Gina Oldenburg, followed with a warm and engaging performance of Mario the Peddler by bestselling author Tony Bottagaro. After Tony has delighted the audience with his one-man show, the audience will receive another kind of treat, tantalizing homemade Italian desserts. The heritage month program for Il Circolo Italiano will feature guest presenter Dick Kreck, a Denver author, who will speak about his book Smaldone: The untold story of an American crime family. Nov. 8, 2009 at 3:30 PM –  Seconda Domenica
The Italian community and italophiles are invited to to share in another chapter of Our Lady of Mount Carmel's church history with its Seconda Domenica cultural, fellowship, and fundraiser events for the church. Each Seconda Domenica event will include a distinct area of Italian culture, the showing of an Italian film with English subtitles. Dr. Vincent Piturro from CU Denver has graciously donated his time and expertise to critique the award winning Italian films from various periods that will be shown.

Doors will open at 3:30 till 4:00 p.m. The admission charge of $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for students provides viewing of the film, fellowship, some food - ³Bagna Cauda² (an Italian fondu appetizer) and a "bevanda" - and Dr. Piturro's critique of the film.Tickets will be sold at the door will be sold untill 4:00 PM. On Wednesday, Dec. 2nd, at 5:00 PM, the French and Italian Department at CU Boulder will present a lecture titled The first Terzina of the Divine Comedy: The Poem in Three Lines. The lecture being presented by Paolo Cherchi, Professor Emeritus, the University of Chicago and University of Ferrara, will be held in the Humanities Building, room #250. Dec. 6, 2009 at 9:00 AM –  Messa in Italiano la Prima Domenica di Ogni Mese
Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church is continuing to have an Italian Mass on the first Sunday of each month at 9:00 AM. It is a great opportunity to practice the Italian language and a challenge to keep up with Fr. Tim's Italian. Handouts include both Italian and English prayers, so it's easy to follow. There will be a reception in the Parish Hall immediately following the Mass.
